The Rico Board is an excellent high-performance Single Board Computer (SBC) using the newest TI’s AM437x Sitara ARM Cortex-A9 based solution. This new generation solution has an increase in performance, as well as extensive reuse from the ARM Cortex-A8 offerings. It features up to 1GHz of processing power, 3D graphics acceleration for rich graphical user interfaces, PRU-ICSS for industrial protocols, improved Vector Floating Point (VFP) unit and other peripherals and interfaces support like Quad-SPI, dual parallel cameras, two independent eight-channel ADCs, etc.

Rico Board - TI AM437x ARM Cortex-A9 Single Board Computer

The AM437x processor family has four different pin-to-pin compatible AM437x device variations: the Sitara AM4376, AM4377, AM4378 and AM4379. They only have differences in options whether they have offered 3D graphics accelerator and their PRU can support for the EtherCAT slave protocol. Users can make selections according to their requirements.

TI AM437x Devices

The Rico board is equipped with 512MB DDR3, 4GB eMMC Flash, 16MB QSPI Flash and 32KB EEPROM on board. Additionally, it has rich peripherals including a Debug serial port, USB 2.0 Host and Device ports, a Gigabit Ethernet port, TF card slot, HDMI port, dual camera interfaces, LCD interface, etc. Two 2.54mm pitch 40-pin expansion connectors allow the availability of more I/Os for peripheral signals like two SPI, two I2C, two CAN, four UARTs, one MMC and eight-channel ADC.

The Rico Board is capable of running Linux operating system and provided with Linux 3.12.10 SDK of which the kernel and many drivers are in source code. MYIR also offer a complete Rico Board development kit that includes a Rico Board, necessary cable accessories, an optional 7-inch LCD Module (including capacitive touch screen), optional 3G, WiFi, Camera and GPRS modules, and detailed documents to enable rapid development when customers getting the board out-of-the-box.

The Rico Board can be used for the evaluation module (EVM) for the AM437x processor family; it can also be used directly for your embedded products. Typical applications are industrial automation, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), bar code scanners, portable data terminals, test and measurement, patient monitoring and human machine interface (HMI).

The Rico Board has been selected as the Host Controller Board for TI' TIDA-00750 People Counting Demand Controlled Ventilation 3D Time-of-Flight (ToF) Reference Design due to its affordable cost, ready-to-use interfaces and Debian supporting.

What kind of file system does Rico board support?

The Rico Board offers two file systems:

The default is  Arago filesystem + TI Matrix GUI Launcher( Base on Qt and html5 ) 

The other file system is build by buildroot + Qt 

2. What are the boot modes of Rico board?

What are the boot modes of Rico board?

The Rico board has three boot modes:

Mode 1: Boot from a TF Card, Load Ramdisk Filesystem 

Mode 2: Boot from a TF Card, Load Ext4 Filesystem 

Mode 3: Boot from the QSPI Flash, Load Ext4 Filesystem of eMMC 

The Mode 3 is the default loading mode. The boot mechanisms and corresponding program steps
of above three loading modes are described in
the following sections.

JP1 and JP2 boot sequences :

JP1 Close  JP2 Open: QSPI->USB1->MMC0->USB0 
Open Close MMC0->MMC1->USB1->USB0 
Close Close NAND->USB1->MMC0->USB0

3. Does the Rico board come with JTAG header?

The JTAG interface is on the back of the board as shown in below image. We have not soldered the connector. It is an 1.27mm pitch 20-pin interface.

4. What could the Rico board camera interface connect?

What could the Rico board camera interface connect?

The Rico board camera interface can only connect with CMOS sensor or BT.656 encode chip. 

5. Does the Rico board have Audio function?

Does the Rico board have Audio function? I can't find Audio in and out device on it.

Our Rico board has no Audio function. We have brought out I2S to the expansion interface, customers can extend the Audio function by themselves to their next design.

6. Can I develop a USB driver for a Windows host PC to transfer files to the board's USB Device port?

Can I develop a USB driver for a Windows host PC to transfer files to the board's USB Device port?

The Rico board already has ported with Linux OS and supports one USB device, such as simulating a U disk driver. USB protocol has many modes, you must promise that the protocols between them are matched.
